"Let's get on the pain train." [S. Van Ballekom]
SARAH VAN BALLEKOM
AGE: 28 (White Jersey - Young Rider)
There is no contest for the most enthusiastic member of the peloton. She may be the youngest member of the team, but what she lacks in experience, she makes up for with her relentless energy, stamina and positive vibes. Sarah goes by many nicknames, but is fondly known to most as SVB. SVB is a natural athletic talent. She has recently conquered Kilimanjaro, numerous marathons, a half ironman and has also represented New Zealand as a member of the NZ Universities rowing team. While her school mates dreamt of becoming doctors and lawyers, SVB had dreams of working for the International Olympic Committee. After graduating with a degree in Law and starting her career as a commercial lawyer in Auckland, she landed her dream job at the IOC where she has spent the last three years working in the sports department. Her admiration of all Olympians (none more so than her fellow members of the peloton), has made her the ultimate advocate for the work that she does with the World Olympians Association.
SVB’s two biggest concerns about the trip are whether she can order her bike in black and that she won’t spend a night alone in a tent. Sarah is our teams ultimate selfless 'Soigneur' – her assigned role as ‘head of communications’ encompasses providing daily chat, motivation and updates on current affairs and the Royal family.
